Our Aim

Phat Beets Produce aims to create a healthier, more equitable food system in Oakland and beyond by providing affordable access to fresh produce, facilitating youth leadership in health and nutrition education, and connecting small farmers to urban communities via the creation a CSA, community farm stands, markets, and  youth entrepreneurship.

Our Story

Phat Beets Produce was started in 2007 as a food justice project. PBP aims to address the lack of access to healthy food for low-income communities of color in Oakland, the resulting health disparities for these communities, and the simultaneously lacking opportunities for healthy employment for these communities through its programming. Phat Beets Produce consists of five regular programs: 1) Produce distribution, 2) Youth programming, 3) Education, 4) Edible parks and plazas, and 5) Small food-business incubation.
